Spindle Films is a Canadian production company with offices in Toronto and Calgary. We create high-quality, boundary-pushing content that centers on 2SLGBTQIA+ characters and stories.
Really Happy Someday, Spindle's first feature film, will have its World Premiere at TIFF 2024. Really Happy Someday is supported by Telefilm and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Spindle Films was founded by J Stevens (they/them). J is the co-creator, cinematographer, and director of the high-energy mockumentary series, Slo Pitch (IFC/OutTV). J directed two episodes of Astrid & Lilly Save the World (Crave, Syfy) as well as on season two of the Peabody award-winning series, Sort Of (HBO Max, CBC). J directed all episodes of the series, Stories from my Gay Grandparents which is premiering at Inside Out, 2024.​

J received a Best Directorial Achievement in a Comedy Series nomination at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards 2022 for Astrid & Lilly Save The World. J was named one of Playback Magazine's 'Top 10 Filmmakers To Watch 2022' and was selected for the TIFF Filmmakers Lab 2022 as well as one of their Every Story Fellows.
